An Organ donation is only possible, when death has been doubtlessly diagnosed.
A person is declared dead, when :

  • either brain death has occured, which means all brainfunctions have been completely and irreversibly extincted. In this case, all the organfunctions, including respiration and circulation, need to be artificially sustained.Brain death is mostly refered to cerebral haemorrhage or cerebral trauma.
  • or a persistant cardiovascular arrest has occured. ( For Switzerland, in this case, there can't be taken any organs)
