Elia Grollimund received a heart transplant three years ago. He needed an artificial heart ("Berlin heart") to get through the wait for a new heart. This involved remaining stationary in the hospital for several months until a donor heart was located.

Two weeks after the transplant, Elia was finally able to leave the hospital and go home. His request to take the "old" heart home with him was fulfilled.

Three years later, Elia is doing well with the donor heart. He gets good grades in school, he likes to ride his bike and play sports, and he is generally enjoying life.
